Kallola 2021 poster: Period Talks and Menstrual Health & Hygiene

Festival launch

The 7th Kallola festival was launched on 19 October 2021 by UNICEF Odisha in collaboration with Aaina, an Odisha-based voluntary organisation. To help promote this year's theme - "Period Talks and Menstrual Health & Hygiene" - the organisers are partnering with Youth4Water, the SuSanA India Chapter, IRC and the Odisha MHM Alliance. Attending the launch were actress and Ambassador of UNICEF's Red Dot Campaign Archita Sahu, UNICEF Odisha Chief Monika O. Nielsen, Kallola Jury Chair Ananta Mahapatra, Kallola resource person Subas Das and Aaina Secretary Sneha Mishra. Youth4Water representative Ranjan Panda, Nitya Jacob from the SuSanA India Chapter and IRC's Shiny Saha joined the launch event virtually. 

The Kallola Festival comprises of 2 parts:

  • Kallola with Children - children actively participate in developing scripts and short film shooting
  • Kallola for Filmmakers - registered film makers are invited to a workshop to develop scripts for short films that are 30, 60 or 90s long. A jury selects 10 scripts for films that will be premiered during the Global Menstrual Management Week Campaign on 24-28 May 2022.

National Contest for Short Films of 30, 60 & 90 seconds

Film-makers, both amateurs and professionals, young and old, from all over India are invited to register for the short film contest by 31 January 2022 - see the poster above. The top 10 short films will be shortlisted and rewarded.

Screening of short films

On 10th December 2021 short films made by children of Kallola 2021 from Manikeswari and Tapoban High Schools were screened in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Speakers from the organisers, UNICEF and Aaina, attended the screening together with other dignitaries.
