This is first in a series of IRC Events for 2016. 

The theme for the event is ‘Reaching universal coverage: an Agenda for Change’. The Sustainable Development Goals require the sector to work towards universal coverage of water and sanitation services.

This raises the question on whether the sum of conventional programmes will be sufficient to reach that goal, or whether further acceleration is needed?

Will the approaches followed so far be sufficient or is there need for alternatives, particularly to reach the last 10-15% of the population that do not have access yet, and that often are the most vulnerable and marginalised groups?

What is the agenda for the change that is needed to get towards universal coverage?

During this event speakers presented approaches that explicitly focus on overcoming the last mile challenge of reaching the un-served population, and come forward with an agenda for change.
