On June 21, 2018 from 3:30-5:00PM EST, the IRC US Office will be hosting a "Coffee and Conversation" informal talk with Patrick Moriarty, IRC CEO, to discuss experiences with district level master planning. To attend in person in Washington DC or listen through the live stream, please register here.

IRC, along with other development partners, has worked to support the local government in Asutifi North District, Ghana, to develop a master plan detailing the broad vision, programs and strategies for the implementation of a 13-year initiative called the Asutifi North District Ahonidie Mpontuo (ANAM) or Clean Asutifi North Initiative. ANAM seeks to promote universal access to safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene services to about 84,423 people by the year 2030. The master plan is informed by guidelines of the National Development Planning Commission of Ghana, and framed within targets of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 6.

The master plan provides a framework for coordinating and aligning efforts of all actors towards achieving the stated goal and vision for WASH in the District. The process of developing the plan was participatory. It involved stakeholders at local, regional and national levels. The National Development Planning Commission, IRC, Safe Water Network, World Vision International, Community Water and Sanitation Agency, chiefs, and the Asutifi North District Assembly played various roles in preparing the document. The plan preparation process was completed within a year (January to December 2017).
