Abstract

This case study captures the history and development of the Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) sector development in Ethiopia focusing and seeking to explore the notion of sector collaboration as an instrument for sector awareness creation, ownership and capacity – so that more people have access to sustainable WaSH services.

It focuses on the sector review processes between 2006 and 2012, and seeks to answer questions such as:

  1. What does the sector review process in Ethiopia look like?
  2. What are the major achievements over the six year period 2006-2012?
  3. What are the requirements to sustain the various aspects of collaboration arising from the sector review process?

The case study contributes towards the documentation of WASH sector knowledge in Ethiopia with support from the IRC Ethiopia Country Programme.
