Abstract

Estimating the true cost of extending sustainable WASH services to poor households is an ongoing problem for WASH service providers. How can we achieve the most while spending the least?

WASHCost sought to address this challenge by developing and testing a life-cycle costs approach in rural and peri-urban areas of developing countries. This working paper describes the components and application of a life-cycle costs approach as one solution that enables service providers to provide long-lasting WASH services.
