On 3 and 4 November the 2015 Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) global multistakeholder partnership meeting was held in The Hague at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting brought together representatives of SWA partners (along with some potential partners) from all constituencies: governments, external support agencies, civil society, research and learning institutions, private sector and community-based organisations.

On the agenda were, among others, the announcement of the new Chair, the Hon. Kevin Rudd. He replaces H. E. Hon. John A. Kufuor, Former President of Ghana, who is standing down, having led SWA since its founding in 2010. Also announced was a newly elected Steering Committee

IRC's CEO Patrick Moriarty, as one of the new Steering Committee members, will be the representative for the Research and Learning constituency as supported by Erma Uytewaal.

The SWA meeting came at the perfect time: the new Sustainable Development Agenda has just been adopted, SWA has a new 2015-2020 Strategy and is in the process of finalizing a new governing document, and several new members are joining the Partnership.

SWA and the Sustainable Development Goals

SWA is playing a pivotal role in follow up and review of the water and sanitation SDG targets. The partnership provides an ideal platform for exchange of learning and support to countries as they prepare their SDG Water and Sanitation implementation plans.

IRC is delighted to be a member of  the newly elected Steering Committee and will support the partnership's efforts  while working collaboratively to reach a common goal: sanitation, hygiene and water for all, always and everywhere.
