There is no doubt that several candidates were attentive and responsive to the call of the people for whom IRC and its partners (National Council of Civil Society Organizations, Monitoring Centre, Council of women of Burkina, Movement of 31 October, Lefaso.net, Fasozine, Burkina24, RTB, Radio Omega) acted as spokespersons. And with a positive result.

Mr. Kaboré, the winner of the presidential elections, had answered the call through several commitments to "Meeting the drinking water needs and promoting a healthy environment". Indeed, he is committed to achieving the vision of "zero water collection" by reaching 100% coverage in both urban and rural areas. He has also committed to ensuring that at least 80% of the urban population and 50% of the rural population will have access to adequate water and sanitation services.

The majority of the Burkinabè population has identified water as a priority, and during the democratic transition, the human rights to water and sanitation were taken up in the constitution. For IRC and its partners, the responses to their calls by Mr. Kaboré cannot be treated as just "political promises", they are political commitments that will be closely watched and monitored by civil society.

IRC wishes the new President of Burkina Faso, His Excellency Roch Kaboré, success with the implementation of his commitments to clean water and sanitation during his term of office. As a centre of expertise, IRC will continue to provide the Burkinabè government with technical assistance for research, and the implementation of strategic and operational solutions for universal and permanent access to drinking water and sanitation. IRC will remain vigilant and dedicated to ensuring that the president respects the human rights to water and sanitation as recognised in the constitution of Burkina Faso.
